Sony has announced a new State of Play broadcast set for Thursday, July 10, featuring an exclusive 20-minute look at Ghost of Yōtei, the highly anticipated sequel to Ghost of Tsushima.
The livestream will begin at 2 p.m. PT / 5 p.m. ET / 10 p.m. BST / 11 p.m. CEST, and will be hosted by Sucker Punch’s creative directors Jason Connell and Nate Fox. Fans will get their first extended look at gameplay, after only a brief teaser was shown during last month’s PlayStation Showcase.
According to Sony, the deep dive will explore the game’s protagonist, Atsu, and her intense quest for vengeance. Viewers can expect a tour of her weapons, customization features, new modes, and a broader look at the world set at the edge of Japan.
Ghost of Yōtei was first revealed in September last year and introduces a brand-new lead character. The game is set in Ezo (modern-day Hokkaido) during the early 1600s. The story follows Atsu, a survivor seeking revenge on a group of outlaws known as the Yōtei Six, who murdered her family and left her pinned to a burning ginkgo tree.
“She learned to fight, to kill, and to hunt,” said Sucker Punch’s Andrew Goldfarb. “Now she’s returned with a list of names: The Snake, The Oni, The Kitsune, The Spider, The Dragon, and Lord Saito.” Armed with the same katana that nearly ended her life, Atsu begins a journey that evolves beyond revenge, as she builds new alliances and uncovers deeper truths.
The game is set to launch this October, and its timing puts it just six months after Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Ubisoft’s Japan-set open-world title, which will also see major DLC before the end of 2025.
With Ghost of Yōtei, PlayStation aims to continue its streak of emotionally powerful, action-driven storytelling—this time powered by sunlight through samurai steel.
